Pinehurst No. 2, known as Donald Ross’s Masterpiece, opened back in 1907.  It has been home to numerous professional and amateur championship tournaments, most notably the U.S. Men’s Open Championship in 1999, 2005 and 2014 and the U.S. Women's Open Championship in 2014.  The Men’s championship will return to No. 2 in 2024.

Longleaf Golf & Family Club, a Dan Maples designed course, is home to U.S. Kids Golf Academy which hosts the World Championships for competitive kids age 12 and under.  Kids from all over the world come to play and visit the Sandhills with their family where they have “fun learning the lifelong game of golf and encourage family interaction that builds lasting memories."

Operated by the Southern Pines Elks Club, the Southern Pines Golf Club may be the oldest design by Donald Ross, and one of the best kept secrets of the Sandhills.
