Spring Matinee at the Pinehurst Harness Track

Back in 1915 it was decided that a Harness Track and stables would be built at the 111 acres at the current location that can be found at the corner of Highway 5 and Morganton Road. We are so happy that decision was made! This winter training center has one race each year in Pinehurst, a sort of farewell until next year.

While spring flowers may have announced the start of spring in the Sandhills weeks ago, the true start seems to be with the sound of pounding hooves each April.

On the National Register of Historic Places since 1992 it is not only a fun place to be but beautiful as well. Parking at the polo field is a bit of a walk to the races but it is such a beautiful stroll through the 17 large stables and gives you a glimpse into the racing life of a harness enthusiast.

The 2019 Spring Matinee will be held on April 6th. Gates open at 11:00 a.m., Opening Ceremonies at 1:00 p.m. and the first race at 1:30 p.m. Some people have reserved tailgating places, some set up along the rail, and some sit in the bleachers. No matter where you sit the view is unobstructed and a great time is a sure thing.

We'll see you at the races!
