Southern Pines, NC
Charles Shaw acquired a state land grant in the 1850’s where is started cutting pines. After 1876 when the railroad came through, John T. Patrick purchased 675 acres to build a health resort. Those travelers coming from the north and heading to Florida found the city a place to visit and relax. After WWI, James Boyd to add to the city resort and transportation, by initiating the equestrian and literary that is still a huge factor today. Today, Southern Pines is a thriving city with activities for every age group and every type of life style. Amtrak still operates to today from New York to Miami.
